Written by the apostle Peter (roughly A.D. 62–64). 1 Peter encourages believers scattered across Asia Minor who are suffering for their faith, reminding them of their living hope in Christ and calling them to holy conduct as strangers and exiles in this world.
Peter addresses scattered believers as a new-covenant diaspora community, announces their living hope grounded in the resurrection, calls them to the holiness of their calling, and declares their identity as the royal priesthood and holy nation of a new Exodus.
Peter calls believers to suffer faithfully within households and before the watching world, grounds their endurance in Christ's own suffering and vindication, and promises that the God of all grace will himself restore those who humble themselves under his mighty hand.
