Written by Paul during his final imprisonment in Rome (roughly A.D. 66–67), likely his last letter. 2 Timothy is a deeply personal charge to Timothy to guard the gospel, endure suffering, and continue in faithful ministry — written in the shadow of Paul's approaching death.
Paul, facing death in a Roman prison, urges Timothy to fan into flame his God-given gift, refuse shame for the gospel, guard the apostolic deposit, and endure suffering as a good soldier of Jesus Christ.
