Written by Paul while imprisoned (roughly A.D. 60–62). Ephesians celebrates the riches of God's grace, the mystery of Jew and Gentile united in Christ, and the calling of the church to live in unity, holiness, and spiritual armor.
Paul unfolds the staggering spiritual blessings that belong to every believer in Christ — election, redemption, and the Spirit's seal — and reveals the long-hidden mystery that Gentiles are now fellow heirs of the same body.
Paul's great 'therefore' turns three chapters of doctrine into a call to walk worthy of the calling, as believers pursue the seven unities of the Spirit, grow into Christlike maturity through gifted leaders, and order their households under the lordship of Christ.
Paul closes Ephesians by calling believers to stand firm in spiritual warfare, clothing themselves in the full armor of God — equipment drawn from Isaiah's portrait of the LORD's own armor — and sustaining the battle through persistent prayer.
